Re: Screenshots

I like the desert, but even more, I'd love to see the wildlife preserves. Could be based on the art design for the level 'guilty spark 343' from halo, I figure it would hold up pretty well.

Re: Screenshots

Yeah, but how would you get all the landscape and such... I haven't actualy seen the artwork, but I'm assuming it has vegetation... seems like a tough thing to do, a desert is easy enough, just need a single texture for the ground, and use objects already in game

The desert looks amazing! I imagine that Motoko was losing her way on the desert and finally she found some people who could help her some food and water.

Re: Screenshots

I have an idea. Why don't we make a script for the desert level? Something like playing "hide and seek" or "finding treasure on an oasis by solving some quizzes and killing the bad guys/ bandits".

Re: Screenshots

That's the beauty of a new level isn't it, you can do anything with it

However, my feeling is that a script is already made/being made for it, or at least theres one in mind already. Unless edT proves me wrong?

A bit more alien in places, which might fit well.

I believe it should be extractable via the Halo editors, not sure if it works on both the mac and PC side, or what, I've not played with the Halo editors much.

Re: Screenshots

Mukade: Wrong! :-)  Nothing is planned for the level, I was just experimenting with a level that was "organic" with hills and curves and how the engine and the AI would react to it.  But without pathfinding grids, the AI will only fight within a small area.

love_Oni: Those script ideas sound like fun.

Jon: If someone can extract a Halo level, I will give it a try!

The AI can target you even though you are a distance away (Used ai2_showtargeting=1):

I fired at the AI first and he returned fire.

Also, this screenshot show how some polygons don't get rendered.

Re: Screenshots

The missing polygons are probably the fault of the ray-casting not catching them.  There aren't many areas in Oni which have a structure like this where there are polygons almost edge-on to the camera, and at such a distance.  Where that does happen, they still catch the rays because floors in Oni are composed of larger polygons.

Re: Screenshots

With such an open map, do you think it possible to create pathfinding grids? Since they don't have to go through doors and such. Or, sry if I forgot, but have we actually found how how to make the grids period?

Re: Screenshots

I don't think we can create any grid at all yet.  Sooner or later Neo should have at least a basic method working, though.

Re: Screenshots

According to Neo, pathfinding grids are planer, so they won't work on curved surfaces like hills or the desert :-(

Also, without pathfinding grids, ai2_movetoflag, ai2_followme, ai2_dopath won't work.  So the best we can do is have melees in a small confined area or a gun battle.

It seems Motoko finds the weirdest places:

I suppose in a level like this we can have a find the treasure while avoiding getting shot by the bad guys script :-)

Thanks to Paradox who extracted most of these objects.

Re: Screenshots

Map creating will be very useful for multiplayer though, since we do not need pathfinding grids smile

Re: Screenshots

Paff: Oni uses BNV for stairs:

I used TNGViewer to display the BNV from the Rooftops level.  You can extract the AKEV (3D environment of a level with Onisplit)

Looks like a place where the Syndicate and TCTF dumped all the stuff they didn't need anymore... tongue

Idea (I know it's bad, but well...): Could this desert kind of map be the world after the end of Oni's story...? hmm

In theory, could you set up the entire desert like stairs, and use a thin fog (that looks like sand) over the top, so the pathfinding would work?

Re: Screenshots

I'm not sure why it wouldn't just work to flag the desert ground the same way that ramps and stairs are flagged in Oni, without changing the level geometry at all.
