I am facing the above error after installing and updating AE. It seems that double-clicking AEInstaller2Updater.jar works, fetches the update but does not launch AEI. Another thing to note is that updater_output.txt is empty and I cannot locate AEInstaller2.jar anywhere in the AE folders.
Please assist. I am currently on Windows 7 x64 and currently have Java 8 installed.

Hi Athame. We're wondering if it's Java 8 that's the issue. Would you be willing to try installing the AE again after downgrading to Java 7? Also, a simpler question before you do that: do you have Oni installed on your boot volume?

I give this a try.

Almost...Oni is currently installed on C:\Games\Oni.

As long as you're booting from C:\, that should be fine. That just leaves the question of whether it's Java 8 that's the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience in asking you to change Java versions, but it will help narrow down the issue.

Wow. Downgrading to Java 7 successfully runs the AEIupdater without issues. Running it with Java 8 seems to breaks this: AEIupdater runs, but never fetches any files though it states it does.

Ah, interesting. I'll run this by Alloc.

We probably do need more information, but I'm not sure what we should ask you. I just tested installation of the AE on my machine, in Win 7 x64 with Java 8 installed, and it worked.
I'm not sure what questions Alloc will have, but if you're interested in trying something new, you can install Subversion for Windows and try to download the AE Installer using the same method that the AEI Updater was trying to use. If this method doesn't work, then even if we give you the AE Installer files manually, you won't be able to get updates to the Installer in the future, so we need to find out why this method isn't working.
After installing Subversion, enter the Console Prompt window and type:
cd C:\Games\Oni\AE\bin
This won't work if you don't already have a bin\ folder inside AE\, so you'll need to create that first if it's not present, then run the 'cd' command. Afterward, in the same console window, run:
svn co http://svn.aei.oni2.net
After this command runs, I think you can just click on the AEInstaller2.jar file in AE\bin\ to run the AE, or use the AE shortcut if it was created on your desktop.

Interesting, thanks for the additional info. Hopefully Alloc can work on this soon, as I think everyone should be on Java 8 by now.
Edit: What version of Windows are you in, Samer?

guys have you figured a solution for this ?
I need to uninstall Java 7 because having 7 and 8 is causing issues in my browser and other programs.

Oh, sorry, we should have updated this thread. What Alloc has done is update the Setup app so it always installs a local JRE (Java 6) just for the AEI, so that the environment never changes when someone updates their global installation of Java (AE Setup used to skip installing the local JRE if there was a global installation of Java that it could use). So you'll want to start over from the beginning and install the AE using the latest Setup app from the Depot.

Or fix any shortcuts to the AEI you have so they point to your new javaw.exe
Also you don't have to delete anything to install the new AEI, you should be fine just installing it over your existing install.
