Question about a song on the soundtrack

Well, not the soundtrack as a whole, but just one particular track. I was going through the MP3's of the soundtrack of the wiki, And during the song that plays over the credits, there was a hidden track on it called "porn groove" (lel) that was full of unused character quotes. Is there an instrumental rip of that, or am I on my own in getting it?

While I'm on the subject, Bungie should've made a sound test screen for the game. Would've made me a happy kid back in 2003 when I first got the game. tongue

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Unfortunately, it seems that xgrv is one of the missing tracks: http://wiki.oni2.net/Music/Ingame#Missing_tracks

Meaning that it's only available in the form of End Titles on the CD.  Technically it was a guess that xgrv was used in the credits' sound bite portion, but if that track had been found anywhere in Oni's resources, then no guess would have been necessary.  So by process of elimination, we can say that it's definitely not in the game data.

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Damn, that's a bummer. hmm That page you linked though said "Ambient Suite" has some of those missing tracks. Maybe if I take a listen through that it might be there? It's likely a wild shot, but it's worth checking.

EDIT: Nope. looks like I'm stuck with the standard one. Why are most of those tracks missing in-game, anyway?

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Well, I suppose they didn't find a place to use them, so to save disk space, they left them out.  The only reason we know they existed are the OSBD files that serve as a registry for the music pieces.  Those were left in since they're tiny and BWest probably forgot about them.

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

I reckon that makes sense, but it still kills me though. I wanted to use that groove for an Oni-related project I was planning. I guess I'll have to use something different.

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Yeah, afraid so, unless you can recreate the groove from the parts that are being played without soundbites over them, but it's probably not worth the effort when there are other "beats" to choose from.

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Hmm, I guess I could simply just sample parts of it instead of using it as a whole. Could still work, It'll just be a bit more repetitive, I guess.

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Sorry for double posting, but I remade the groove on Soundcloud. You guys can download it for archival purposes if you want: hxxp://soundcloud.com/spyderzip_productions/spideys-fl-sessions-oni-groove

[Edit: The track is now hosted here. -Iritscen]

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Good job!  I never got the chance to appreciate it on its own without all the amusing soundbites.

Well, that's why I'm here ;P lol. Right now, I'm re-arranging it to suit it for my music project.

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Interesting side note: not everyone listening to this may be hearing it correctly.  I had headphones on when I visited Soundcloud and was able to hear the full range of the piece.  When playing it through my external speakers, however, the bass on this track is almost completely inaudible, and I think it's always been that way on my Macs throughout the years.  It's a very different (inferior) listening experience without that bass line.

I'm going to assume you have a MacBook or the sort. Most laptops have crappy speakers anyway lol. But my friend's MacBook played it fine (with bass!!!) when I previewed it to him.

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Nope, I have a 2011 iMac.  I can only hear the bass because I know it's there, and only then if I put my ear near the speakers on the bottom of the display, and even then it's barely audible.

Wow, I was unaware iMacs had such low speaker quality lol. That's crazy.

Re: Question about a song on the soundtrack

Dunno, most music sounds surprisingly good to me coming from the speakers, but I am usually listening to music that isn't using the bass very much (at least I don't think it is!).  So the output quality is high, but I do think the bass end of the output is very underpowered.
