So I was trying to reinstall Oni after switching to the 64bit version of Windows XP. Same DVD drive, same computer. Only now the installation doesn't start. When I try to start the setup on my own, the computer just pretends to be busy for a few seconds, then nothing else happens (although according to the task manager, the setup is running).
The really weird thing is though that every time I try this, when I shut the computer down - hours afterwards -, the setup screen flashes up for a second, so it seems to run in the background somehow.
I've tried running it in various combatibility modes, but that doesn't work either. And the CD works on another computer (with XP 32* version). I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions?

I've never used 64-bit XP myself, but try running it with compatibility mode on. It works fine on the 64-bit version of Windows 7. Besides, why would you run Windows XP 64-bit?

As stated above, I've already tried that
Why I use the 64bit version? I don't know... I guess I was getting tired of programs running well... especially iTunes, always putting files on my mp3 player that I could actually play without the damn thing crashing... that was really getting on my nerves I needed some drama and now I have it.

Install on a 32 bit computer, copy the files over.

Okay, I solved it... sort of, so in case anyone else comes across this problem (which I've been having with various setup files now, not just Oni): just create a new user account on your computer, switch to it, install the program, then you can also run it from your old account. At least this worked for me.
edit: when I had the problem again with the new account a month later, I found another possibility: install the programm in safe mode.

It should work fine, even after a failed directx install.

i cant pretend to know, but do you have that bink.exe file? i forget where i got it, but it might just be the opening movie's not starting up right?
or i could be completely wrong. im just trying to offer advice. does anyone know what im talking about?
when the screen is black, do you hear any sound or not?
if you hear the title menu music, then it might have to do with screen resolution.. i think?
if theres no sound its more likely what i said up there...

Intels can be Dual Cores. What type of Intel is it? What do you have the graphics set to? Does in lag on the menus or just ingame?

To be honest, I have no idea what is wrong with your computer. You are probably running too many things in the background.
