After not playing oni in years, and losing the disc, i decided to buy it again. I remember it being a great game
Installed fine.
As i load the game, the first 2 movies play fine.
Once im on the menu, the mous lags across the screen in jerky movements of about 1fps. I can move the mouse, but it wont respond for another second.
The intro movies when i start the game also lag like this along with ingame play.
I tryed installing openGL but it won't let me register.
Im running on 1.5GB Ram
ATI Radeon x800 Graphics Card
Lanparty NF Motherboard
As far as i can see, it shouldn't be a hardware problem...do i need to install a patch perhaps...
All Drivers are up to date.
Anybody recognise these problems?
Thanks in advance if you can help or offer some advice!
/Moomin

Hm, try the Daodan DLL: http://wiki.oni2.net/Daodan_DLL
This just runs the game in window mode, problem persists.
I am running XP Home edition, using the original oni game (not anniversary)

Try this version of the DLL, it has a patch to fix performance related issues. I'm not sure if it'll work but its worth a try.

Thanks for your help, but it hasn't made a difference.
Would a visual recording of my problems help at all?

Being a Mac user, I can't really help troubleshoot Windows issues, but I just have two (probably ignorant) questions.
1. "I tryed installing openGL but it won't let me register" Huh? We may impugn Oni's usage of OpenGL all the time, but it does make *some* use of the protocol. Don't you need OpenGL to run Oni??
2. "All Drivers are up to date." Isn't there also an issue where sometimes the newest drivers are not the best? Should Moomin be looking into older drivers?

Can you please take a screenshot of your running processes (if thats not too invasive)? Sorted by CPU or RAM (or both ) usage while Oni is running.
Also PLEASE double check those graphics drivers. They are the number one problem with lagging Oni.

I will double check graphics drivers now.

Ehh?! 0 CPU usage? This is while ingame, correct?
imageshack.us is better for image uploading, btw.

Try a defragmenting, virus-scan, and a windows update, that's all i can say, normaly that helps me in such situations.

I defrag once a week, virus scan every 48 hours and windows just got updated today.
Except service pack 3, i have not yet installed that and don't intend to.

Oh my. Hmm. Rename your GamedataFolder\IGMD to something else, and see if you still get monster CPU usage.

Still same CPU and Memory usage. Still the same lag, just no intro movie and missing files.

Have you tried turning the quality slider all the way down on the options menu?

So, was my question about OpenGL just too dumb to even dignify with a response? If it is, that's okay, I was just throwing that out there.
Well, I can't identify many of those processes (since I don't use Windows much), but when I watched the movie my main thought was that if it wasn't an OpenGL problem, then some app seemed to be interfering with Oni's attempts to draw to the screen. I mean, why does the window keep flickering? In my experience on any platform, that means outside interference. Can Windows be booted with startup items disabled? So third-party stuff isn't loaded?

I don't really have a good understanding of what openGL is, i have other games that ask whether they should be ran with direct x or openGL
I can boot my pc so that only neccesary processes are enabled, il try.

The problem might be with the window blinds like program you're running (to use the custom theme). Themes with transparent borders aren't hardware accelerated in Windows XP so that could cause issues with games that don't use DirectX (like Oni).
